How not to overpay: a price-comparison guide

The same item in Serbia can cost 30% more in one shop than another — not because it's better, but because nobody compared. This guide explains how to spend five minutes before a purchase making sure you pay the right price.

1. Compare shops, not ads

The first price you see in search results is rarely the lowest. Advertised positions are paid for by retailers, not won by the cheapest one. On a KolkoKošta product page you see every shop carrying the item, sorted by price — the lowest is always first and clearly marked, and every price shows when it was last checked.

2. Count the total cost, not just the price

A 390 RSD delivery fee turns the “cheapest” offer into a more expensive one. On lower-priced items delivery can be 10–20% of the price, so an offer with free delivery often wins even at a slightly higher item price. Check free-delivery thresholds too — sometimes adding a small item to the cart pays off.

3. Don't trust struck-through prices

The struck-through “old price” is retail's cheapest trick: raise the price a week before the sale, then “cut” it back. A real discount shows in the price history — if the product cost today's price most of the time, the discount is cosmetic. That's why we show when prices changed, not just what they are.

4. Check availability before you click

“In stock” on a shop's site is not a guarantee — especially at promotional prices. If a price looks suspiciously low and it's the “last piece”, expect the order might be cancelled. Out-of-stock offers are clearly labelled here and never count towards the “from X RSD” figure.

5. Buy at the right moment

Electronics get cheapest when model generations change and in late November; large appliances follow the moving-in season; seasonal goods (air conditioners, mowers, pools) peak exactly when everyone needs them. If a purchase can wait two weeks, wait — and if it can't, at least you'll know whether today's price is normal or inflated.
